Week 3

This was my first week to be on my own with Orin. It was great having the moms here to help out the first 2 weeks, but I was ready to do it on my own with just my husband.

Feeding- He is still eating 3 ounces during the day and 4 ounces before bed and during the night. On Wednesday, he switched to Carnation Good Start. He did great! He didn't seem to notice the difference at all. I'm so glad he doesn't spit up or struggle digesting the formula.

Sleeping- He did three six hour chunks at night, and he even did one seven hour chunk on Thursday night! He has been doing great at putting himself to sleep at night. After his last feeding around 8:30, we swaddle him and lay him in the cradle. He has no problem putting himself right to sleep. He still fusses after his middle of the night feedings because he wants to be awake, but we let him cry it out, and he eventually goes to sleep within 20 minutes. I'm still confused and frustrated with his schedule. We have started doing his last feeding at 8:30. But if he wakes up at different times during the night, then we might not get started at 8:30 every morning. Our goal is for him to eat at 8:30, 11:30, 2:30, 5:30, and 8:30. But if he wakes up at 7:30, there is no way to hold him off for an hour, and if I feed him, then it throws off the whole day. We are still trying to figure this out. I guess we are learning as we go.

Waketime- Orin loves to lay or sit and just look around. He likes to be sung to and talked to. He is looking around a lot more, and he really studies our faces when we feed him or talk to him. Sometimes he enjoys tummy time, other times he cries through it. But his little neck is getting stronger! He is now in size 1 diapers full time. We gave up on the newborn diapers after he was peeing through all the time.

Orin went to the doctor Friday, March 13, and he weighed 8 lbs, 6 oz. and was 22 inches long.

I know you didn't ask for my advice on the feeding thing, but I know that my boys had the same issues ... anyway. You could try to do another night feeding right before you go to bed to get him through to the morning. So if you feed him at 8:30 you could wake him up around 10 or 10:30pm to feed him (I know that's less than three hours, but Babywise would say this is an acceptable exception to the rule). If he goes 6 hours between feedings at night he'd be fed at 4am and then he could make it 4 1/2 hours until his normal 8:30am feeding.

My kids were hard to wake up once they were in night sleep mode, so I opted to do an early morning feed and put them back to bed instead of wake them up before I went to bed. Micah would go down around 7:30 or 8 and do a 12am feed and a 4:30 or 5am feed and then even if it'd been less than 3 hours between the early morning feed and the regular morning feed I'd feed him at 7:30am to get the daytime routine started at the same time everyday. Eventually Micah dropped the 12am feeding and then slowly dropped the 4:30am feeding.

I hope that makes sense and I hope I didn't over step my bounds ... just tell me to shut up if you don't want my advice ... I TOTALLY understand!

You are a great Mommy, Katie!!! Orin is lucky to have you!!

Katie, I love digi scraping! I used to scrap, but once I had my little girl I didn't have time for it or the mess! I love that I can do everything on my computer and then just turn off for clean up! I print my pages in book from from Shutterfly-they are amazing! I've also printed the pages at a scrap site and have friends who've used Costco (we don't have that here). Let me know if I can answer any other questions. jennifergray02 at yahoo dot com

Oh, and you do need a program (I use Photoshop elements 7) but there are others available.
