I had to do a little practicing with my camera today, and there is no better subject to practice on than my little man. I'm trying to prepare for an outdoor photo shoot of my niece and nephews that will take place on Sunday. This will be my first time doing something like this, and I know everyone will be very patient with me. I'm slightly nervous, but I feel more confident after taking these pictures today. Isn't he just way too cute?? And a little ornery! :)

Katie, he is too cute and you're doing an excellent job! What kind of camera do you have? If it has manual settings, learn to use them! I am still learning, but it has made a world of difference.
Orin, you're getting too big. Too fast! Slow down, buddy. And you're as cute as a button in that precious outfit.
Hey You. Don't be nervous, ok, I would probably be too if I were taking the pictures. But know this, we will sure be PATIENT, hopefully my kids will to :-))))))))) I am excited for the shoot. It'll be a ball.
You'll do GREAT Katie!!! I love these pictures!
I've heard that the key to good pictures is lighting.
When we get out door pictures taken with Jill (see our family portraits on our blog) she usually does it when the sun is starting to go down. She took our last family pictures around 5:30pm to get the best lighting ... (I guess lighting that is too harsh creates weird shadows) ... anyway ... I don't know much about photography, but I just thought I'd share that tid bit of information.
I have a Canon xsi, nothing fancy. I'm so glad you use Canon, too! Today, I played around with my ISO levels outside. I couldn't get over the changes it made to the pictures...not as far as better...just a different effect. I still have SO MUCH to learn, that's for sure!
I am just loving Orin in these pictures...
(I got the f/1.8 portrait lens you're talking about and love it!!!)
